Precautions for using laser diodes

Laser diodes include single heterojunction (SH), double heterojunction (DH), and quantum well (QW) laser diodes. Quantum well laser diodes have the advantages of low threshold current and high output power, and are the mainstream products in market applications. Compared with lasers, laser diodes have the advantages of high efficiency, small size, and long lifespan. However, their output power is small (generally less than 2mW), poor linearity, and poor monochromaticity, which greatly limits their application in cable television systems. They cannot transmit multi-channel, high-performance analog signals. In the feedback module of a bidirectional optical receiver, quantum well laser diodes are generally used as the light source for uplink transmission.

Precautions for using laser diodes

① Anti static: When taking out pipes or soldering pins, be sure to wear a grounding wristband to prevent the pipes from being damaged by static electricity carried by the human body.

② Welding: When welding, the outer shell of the soldering iron should be grounded, and it is best to unplug the power plug from the socket. The welding time should be short (maximum welding temperature of 260 ℃, welding time less than 5s), and if the welding is not firm after a certain period of time, it can be welded again.

③ Working current: When adjusting, do not exceed the maximum value, and there should be no overshoot current. Prevent wire breakage during adjustment, otherwise it may burn out the pipe. Both AC and DC can work, but the peak value must not exceed the maximum value.

④ If no monitoring output is required, VD2 can also be omitted.

⑤ Prevent laser beam from harming the eyes: When the laser is working, do not directly or through reflection view the light source, otherwise it may harm the eyes. According to international practice, warning labels should be affixed to lasers.
