The role of Schottky diodes and fast recovery diodes
Schottky diodes and fast recovery diodes are common in circuit applications, so what are their roles in circuit applications?
Schottky diodes belong to low-power consumption. The most significant feature of ultra high speed semiconductor devices is the extremely short reverse recovery time, and Schottky diodes are also a type of diode with unidirectional conductivity. Its biggest feature is that the forward voltage drop VF is relatively small. At the same current, it has a lower withstand voltage and slightly larger leakage current. It is commonly used as a low voltage, high current rectifier diode in communication power supplies, frequency converters, etc. Schottky diodes are generally used for rectifying the secondary output of power supplies.
Fast recovery diodes are generally used for high-frequency rectification and freewheeling, and have good switching characteristics. The reverse recovery time is short, and fast recovery diodes are mainly used in circuits. As high-frequency rectifier diodes, the internal structure of the freewheeling diode used is different from that of ordinary PN junction diodes. Its reverse recovery charge is small, so the forward voltage drop of fast recovery diodes is low, and the reverse breakdown voltage is high.
