Differences between Schottky diodes and fast recovery diodes

What are the differences between Schottky diodes and fast recovery diodes?

1、Fast recovery diode, abbreviated as FRD (short reverse recovery time diode), is also a high-speed switching diode with good switching characteristics, short reverse recovery time, reduced forward voltage, and high reverse breakdown voltage (high withstand voltage). It is mainly used in electronic circuits such as power supplies, pulse width modulation circuits (PWM), and frequency converters.

2、Schottky diode is a diode based on the potential barrier formed by the contact between metal and semiconductor, abbreviated as Schottky diode. Schottky diodes belong to low-power, ultra high speed semiconductor devices, with reverse recovery time as small as a few nanoseconds (2-10ns nanoseconds), forward voltage drop of only about 0.4V (0.4-1.0V), and rectified current reaching several thousand amperes. Moreover, the reverse leakage current is large and the withstand voltage is low, generally below 150V, which is mostly used in low-voltage situations.

3、The recovery time of Schottky diodes is about 100 times shorter than that of fast recovery diodes, and the reverse recovery time of Schottky diodes is approximately a few nanoseconds! The advantages of the former include low power consumption and ultra high speed! The electrical characteristics are of course diodes. Fast recovery diodes are manufactured using gold doping and simple diffusion processes, which can achieve high switching speeds and high voltage resistance. Currently, fast recovery diodes are mainly used as rectifying components in inverter power supplies.
