What are the functions of voltage regulator diodes in application circuits? What are the application circuits of voltage regulators?
Zener diode (also known as Zener diode) is a semiconductor device with high resistance until the critical reverse breakdown voltage. At this critical breakdown point, the reverse resistance decreases to a very small value, and in this low resistance region, the current increases while the voltage remains constant. Zener diodes are divided according to their breakdown voltage, and because of this characteristic, they are mainly used as voltage regulators or voltage reference components. Zener diodes can be connected in series for use at higher voltages, and more stable voltage can be obtained through series connection.
Application of voltage regulator:
1. Surge protection circuit: The voltage regulator breaks down at an accurate voltage, which makes it suitable for use as a limiting or protective component, as various voltage regulator diodes can be obtained, making it particularly suitable for this application. As long as the power supply is available
When the voltage VS exceeds the stabilizing value D of the diode, it conducts, causing relay J to pull in load RL and separate from the power supply.
2. Overvoltage protection circuit in the TV: EC is the main supply voltage of the TV. When the EC voltage is too high, D conducts and the transistor BG conducts. Its collector potential will change from the original high level (5V) to a low level, and it will be controlled by the standby control line
The camera enters standby protection mode.
3. Arc suppression circuit: If a suitable voltage regulator diode is connected in parallel to the inductor coil (or a regular diode can be connected according to the same principle), when the coil is cut off in a conducting state, the high voltage generated by its electromagnetic energy release is absorbed by the diode. Therefore, when the switch is disconnected, the arc of the switch is eliminated. This application circuit is widely used in industry, such as in some high-power electromagnetic suction control circuits.
4. Series regulator circuit: In this circuit, the base of the series regulator BG is clamped at 13V by the regulator diode D, and its emitter outputs a constant 12V voltage. This circuit has applications in many situations.
