When using neon glow bulbs, the following precautions should be taken:

① When using neon glow bulbs, a current limiting resistor must be connected in series. The resistance value of the current limiting resistor can be determined by the following equation:

② The power supply voltage should be 25% higher than the maximum starting voltage of the ambient lamp.

③ The ambient lamp using AC voltage can also be used in DC circuits, and the starting voltage of the neon lamp should be increased by 1.4 times.

④ If the neon lamp electrode has an asymmetric structure, the electrode with a larger area is the negative electrode, and the electrode with a smaller area is the positive electrode. Symmetric electrodes do not distinguish between positive and negative, and when emitting light, only one electrode emits light.

⑤ Brightness is related to lifespan. When the selected current limiting resistor value is small, the brightness of the ambient light increases, but the lifespan decreases; On the contrary, the brightness will be darker, but it will increase the lifespan.
