Characteristics of MOS diode
1. The input impedance is very high, because the gate of MOS diode has insulating film oxide, which can even reach hundreds of millions of ohms, so its input takes almost no current and can be used as an electronic switch.
2, the on-resistance is low, and the resistance of several milliohms can be achieved, and the conduction loss is extremely low.
3. Fast switching speed and low switching loss, especially suitable for PWM output mode.
4. Great flexibility in circuit design, the gate bias can be positive or negative or zero, the triode can only work under positive bias, and the electron diode can only work under negative bias;
4. Low power consumption, stable performance, strong radiation resistance, low manufacturing cost, small use area and high integration.
5, strong ability to handle large current, can be easily used as a constant current source.
So now almost all MOS diodes are integrated in the chip.
6. The gate of MOS diode is easy to be broken down by static electricity, the input impedance of the gate is large, the induced charge is difficult to release, and the insulation layer is easily broken down by high voltage, causing damage.
The previous points can also be said to be the advantages of MOS diodes. Finally, it is relatively easy to break down. Nowadays, mos diodes are not so easy to break down, many of them are protected by diodes, and IO port protection has been added in most CMOS devices.
