In general, the replacement of rectifier diodes mainly depends on the parameters, but besides the parameters, I believe everyone also needs to consider many other issues.
Problem 1: The cost has increased. If you initially used rectifier diode LM2596 to output -5V voltage, the rectifier diode 1N5400 on the circuit diagram can be replaced with Schottky diode 1N5825, but the cost will be much higher.
Question 2: Affects the lifespan of Schottky diodes. Schottky diodes have very low reverse voltage resistance, and their reverse breakdown curve is also very soft. This working characteristic has a significant impact on the service life. For example, if a rectifier diode 1N5400 is used, it can last for 10 years without breaking, but if a Schottky diode 1N5825 is used, it may break in 2 years.
So this substitution does not apply the working characteristics of Schottky diodes in the best way possible. Scientific substitution of diodes is the most efficient way to improve working performance.
