Application scope of diodes
The application range of diodes is very wide. As long as diodes have unidirectional conductivity, they can be used for rectification, limiting, protection, detection, clamping, and switching circuits. The following mainly introduces the applications of diodes in several aspects.
1. Rectification circuit
A rectifier circuit utilizes the unidirectional conductivity of diodes to transform a sine wave with alternating directions into a pulsating direct current in a single direction.
2. Switch circuit
Due to the small forward resistance of the diode, it can ideally be considered as zero, equivalent to a switch being turned on; And the reverse resistance is very large, ideally it can be considered infinite, equivalent to a switch being disconnected.
3. Limiting circuit
Limiting the highest level of the output voltage to a certain value or range is called a limiting circuit.
4. Low voltage stabilizing circuit
Voltage regulator circuit is a common component in electronic circuits, which can be used as a reference power supply. It is commonly composed of special diodes - voltage regulator diodes (Zener diodes).
5. Detection circuit
The process of extracting a modulation signal from a modulated high-frequency amplitude modulated oscillating current using the unidirectional conductivity of a diode is called detection. The diode conducts unidirectionally, removing the waveform of the negative half cycle, and then filtering out the high-frequency components through capacitor filtering, leaving only the low-frequency (envelope) signal output through the load.
