Active components refer to components that can perform active functions such as amplifying, oscillating, controlling current or energy distribution of electrical signals, and even performing data operations and processing when energy supply is obtained. Active components include various types of transistors, integrated circuits, picture diodes, and displays.

Passive components, relative to active components, refer to the inability to excite, amplify, oscillate, etc. electrical signals, and their response to electrical signals is passive and compliant. Electrical signals pass through electronic components according to their original basic characteristics. The most common resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc. are passive components.
