During the operation of a thyristor, its anode A and cathode K are connected to the power supply and load, forming the main circuit of the thyristor. The gate G and cathode K of the thyristor control the device connection of the thyristor, forming the control circuit of the thyristor.

The most basic use of ordinary thyristors is controllable rectification, and their so-called controllability refers to semi controllable thyristors. The well-known diode rectifier circuit belongs to uncontrolled rectifier circuit. If the diode is replaced with a thyristor, a controllable rectification circuit can be formed.

Thyristors are widely used in industrial and other fields due to their small size, and cost is also a major reason for their application.
